Occlusal Adjustment in Manteca CA
Whether you are missing teeth, have loose teeth, or your teeth grew in somewhat haphazardly but you have never had corrective orthodontic work, you may struggle with bite problems. When chewing, speaking, or daily comfort affect your quality of life, speak with Dr. Damle about an occlusal adjustment. Improving the alignment of your teeth can have a substantial positive impact on your oral comfort
What Is an Occlusal Adjustment?
Your occlusion is the contact that occurs between your teeth, either when you’re using them to chew, or when your jaws rest and your teeth meet. You may often hear your occlusion referred to as your “bite.” Sometimes, your teeth meet up poorly, which results in uncomfortable symptoms and a condition called “malocclusion.” To correct the discomfort and prevent permanent damage,Dr. Damle will perform and occlusal adjustment to improve your bite.
Dr. Damle may deem an adjustment necessary in the case of one or more of the following problems, which typically occur from disproportionate development of upper and lower teeth and jaws:
- An overbite, in which your top front teeth project too far forward over your bottom front teeth.
- An underbite, in which your lower front teeth sit further forward than your top front teeth.
- Overcrowding, which occurs when you have too many teeth for the size of your mouth.
- Fit problems, which occurs when the grooves of your top and bottom teeth do not fit together comfortably
- Missing or shifting teeth.
How Do You Perform an Occlusal Adjustment?
At Aura Family Dentistry, we perform occlusal adjustments with a two-step process. First, Dr. Damle will reshape your teeth with a drill and filing stone to improve their ability to fit together – visualize your teeth like puzzle pieces that should fit comfortably together. Next, we will fit you with an oral appliance that you can wear at-will, particularly at night. This soft mouthpiece will relax your jaw, prevent you from grinding or clenching your teeth, and will protect the surface of your teeth. The appliance will aid in preventing tooth shifting, jaw muscle tension, and the destruction of your teeth’s surface.
Am I a Good Candidate?
If your mouth hurts, feels uncomfortable when you chew or bite down, you have trouble speaking because of your teeth alignment, your closed mouth feels lopsided, or you experience daily jaw pain, you may be an excellent candidate for an occlusal adjustment
