Q&A in Manteca CA
Our team is prepared to answer your questions and concerns when you come in for a visit with us at Aura Family Dentistry. However, we have compiled a list of commonly asked questions – and their answers – to address many of your inquiries. Hopefully, this will allow you to feel relaxed during your visit. You will be able to ask questions about your visit and upcoming procedures, without feeling overwhelmed with questions the moment you walk through our doors. However, keep in mind that your comfort and education is our top priority. Please always feel free to ask us your questions, even if they seem simple, so we know you feel at ease throughout your visit.
Why Do I Have Sensitive Teeth?
Every patient is different. Some have more sensitive teeth than others. However, if you are experiencing sudden sensitivity, it may be the result of receding gumlines. Gum recession occurs as a natural result of aging, and may occur from periodontal disease. Your enamel may also wear down naturally over time, or as a result of teeth grinding. In addition, sensitivity in a single tooth may point to a cavity or tooth decay. While you should make an appointment so we can provide a diagnosis, you can treat general sensitivity with toothpaste formulated to decrease sensitivity in teeth.
How Do I Avoid Tooth Decay?
Avoiding tooth decay is a multi-step process. First, you must follow good at-home dental hygiene. You should brush at least twice a day with a soft-bristle tooth brush, preferably once after breakfast and again after dinner. Your daily routine should also include flossing in the morning or at night. Second, come in for regular checkups and cleanings. You cannot thoroughly remove the plaque that leads to tooth decay. Professional cleanings and tools will thoroughly clean your teeth, so you can avoid tooth decay and subsequent health problems.
How Often Should I Visit the Dentist?
We suggest you visit us at least once every six months for a checkup and cleaning unless Dr. Damle suggests otherwise. Please bring your children in every six months, as well, to maintain good oral hygiene. This will also allow us to detect any changes or issues, and treat them preventively for the most successful outcome.
Do You Offer White Fillings?
Yes. We refer to these as tooth-colored fillings or composite fillings. While you may have heard that amalgam or metal, fillings are stronger, this is no longer the case. When tooth-colored fillings were first invented, they were made of weaker materials than they are today. We call them tooth-colored fillings because we can color-match each filling to match your tooth – there is no universal shade that works with every smile. Additionally, composite fillings are metal-free, which is beneficial for those allergic to metal. Composite fillings are safe for pregnant women.
I Haven’t Visited the Dentist in Years – Is It Too Late?
Thinking it is too late to visit the dentist is a common misconception. While you may feel that your teeth are beyond help, our many branches of dentistry can address all of your dental needs. We have seen the full spectrum of teeth and simply look forward to assisting you in achieving a comfortable, functional, beautiful smile. If you are anxious about potential discomfort, we offer sedation so we can complete multiple procedures at once, and so we can provide you with a relaxing, calm visit every time you see us.
